Brain Injury Rehabilitation
Rebuilding Independence
Patients recovering from brain injuries find a pathway of healing, opportunity, personal renewal, and lasting independence through our Brain Injury Program. With a focus on relearning activities of daily living, our program includes individualized behavior-management techniques, family involvement and education, and progressive therapy. We strive to maximize each patient’s potential for recovery.
Assuring Proper Treatment
Our specialized brain injury team works to provide the care and education necessary to reach and maintain functional goals following an acquired brain injury. The interdisciplinary team consists of:
- Rehabilitation Physicians
- Speech/Language Therapists
- Recreational Therapists
- Rehabilitation Nurses
- Occupational Therapists
- Social Workers
- Neuropsychologists
- Physical Therapists
Our program helps the family understand the nature of brain injury and its impact on the patient’s ability to function at home and in the community. The patient and family are involved in developing treatment goals and a behavior management plan tailored to fit the individual’s specific needs. During the patient’s rehabilitation stay, his or her family participates in conferences and counseling sessions to discuss progress, problems, and community support services.
Helping You Understand
The goal of rehabilitation is to maximize each patient’s potential for recovery and relearning, working in a safe environment with the least possible restrictions.
Experienced rehabilitation specialists emphasize:
- Individual behavior management
- Progressive therapy techniques
- Extensive family education and involvement
- Consistent communication with patient and family
In addition, we offer such specialized services as a therapeutic aquatics program, comprehensive swallowing program, community reintegration, and a therapeutic home pass that gives patients the chance to practice hospital-learned skills at home. Once patients return home, they can participate in our grant-funded, Brain Injury Life Skills Program, presenting education and support in the pursuit of work, volunteer, and academic opportunities.
